3. Illustration Project: Copper tape, 2LEDs, 3v battery, a piece of paper on a piece of hard board, black ink pen for drawing

This is a kind of sad story and when I read this book, I was so touched by their relationship and the warm hearts. The scene I chose was impressive and I wanted to light up LEDs on his beautiful blue eyes.

[The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde]

“My eyes are all that I have left. They are made of rare sapphires, which were brought out of India a thousand years ago. Pluck out one of them and take it to him. He will sell it to the jeweller, and buy food and firewood, and finish his play.”

“Dear Prince,” said the Swallow, “I cannot do that”; and he began to weep.

“Swallow, Swallow, little Swallow,” said the Prince, “do as I command you.”

So the Swallow plucked out the Prince’s eye, and flew away to the student’s garret.

week2 ; hw and class assignment

the children book that I chose was “The little gingerbread man” by Carol Moore.

… “one day, she made a special hatch of gingerbread men because they were extra big. Unfortuately, for the last gingerbread man she ran out of butter and he was alf the size of the others”….

so I made a green-light-white gingerbread man.

I tried to make a gingerbread man standing up and also I tried to make a fabric-switch that

when you press, it lights up.

Learn a New Craft Project (Due 9/23)

Craft is deeply ingrained in our cultural histories. Crafting processes have been passed down through centuries, changing as new technologies emerge. People have refined processes and experimented with new materials to innovate in textiles, woodworking, metal casting, and so many more.

Week 2 – DIY Light Up Book Cover

book cover1

In honor of back to school season, I wanted to make a book cover that lights up with LEDs and soft-circuits. I started off with the Oliver Wilde quote, “We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars”, and used LEDs and soft-circuits to illustrate the quote. Check out my instructables here.

Evan Roth Talk

Just stumbled across the *amazing* talk from DT alum Evan Roth, founder of Graffiti Research Lab. This is especially relevant for any of you starting your public space project or anyone pondering how to leverage small interventions to create big change. Take a break and watch it.

The Little Prince – Parallel LEDs Circuit

“But the eyes are blind. One must look with the heart.” -The Little Prince, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

I chose The Little Prince because I’ve noticed a lovely little phenomenon. When presented with technology – high or low (especially low, actually) – adults revert to a childlike animation and excitement, which I think is just wonderful. We regard lights as magic and that fascination is one I would never trade. The Little Prince regards the adult world as absurd and imparts important social criticism through deceptive childlike messages.

I made the stars featured throughout the novella out of orange LEDs, because both stars and lights are magical in their own way.

Finally, I chose the quote because it is so important to feel everything we do deeply. Intellect is important, but passion drives us.

Using Paper by 53, I drew/painted an image from The Little Prince. After printing it, I attached LEDs for the stars, and made the parallel circuit using a 3V coin battery and copper tape.

Felt Carrot – Parallel LEDs Soft Circuit

Hi all,

I made a felt carrot with LED’s activated by felt switch in parallel circuit pattern for my homework assignment. I was inspired by Shel Silverstein’s Poem, “Carrots”

Here is the link to my Instrcutables page where I provide step-by-step instructions for you to make your very own Felt Carrot Soft-Circuits project.
