For this week I did an illustration of an iceberg with a penguin.
I used black pigment and transparent base for the penguin and sowed it so that when the circuit is connected, the penguin will be heated up and disappear.

The message is to say that more animals are dying due to global warming and human activities.
For this week’s project, I decided to use thermochromic ink to play with the idea of season changes.
My idea is to have the red layer (fall) under the green layer (summer). So I started by painting the bottom layer.
Then I tried to mix the yellow and blue pigment with the transparent base to make a green transparent layer, but the paint ended up being too thick and gooey to manipulate well. Also, it took a long time to dry… After researching a bit I realized that it would take about 2-3 days to completely dry. (Also, it looks really gross after it dries)
In the interest of time, I decided to scratch this idea and decided to add the green in another way.
Because the fall season also had yellow leaves, I mixed blue pigments with yellow to make green and added that onto the red background. So when the green parts hit the hit, it would become yellow.
Initially, I wanted the change to be entirely from green (summer) to red (fall), but I had a lot of difficulties to make the head go through the thick fabric + paint. So I ended up using a heat shrink to heat up the paint.
This week, I made three speakers using fabric. I did not use the conductive thread to sew. I used normal cotton thread to sew over the conductive one to adhere it to the fabric.

Because it’s said the stiffness of fabric will also affect the volume. Too soft ones will absorb the vibration. I thought the fabric I used for the 1st and 2nd was too soft, so for the 3rd one, I changed to a square of stiff fabric. It is made of a square of stiff fabric and conductive thread.(fig.3)

For this week assignment, I made my speakers into patterns which are made by conductive tape on colorful cards.
In this week’s speaker assignment, I got an inspiration from a sticker on my laptop. Therefore, I made three gift cards in cat shape with copper tape.
-Estee, I used foam board and copper tape for the base. Then I cut foam cups into the shape for better echo of the sound.

For this week’s assignment, I created a speaker using cardboard and copper tape, I made the speaker in a shape of ghost.
However, I didn’t have a chance to test the speakers yet.
This week i created a triangular shaped speaker pattern with 8 layers of copper tape, i discovered that the amount of layers and the roughness of the paper will affect the sound and the intensity of the volume.
