Open Frameworks Point Cloud

For our OF assignment, I decided to mess around with the 3D Point Cloud Example. I was curious as to how the images were given depth. At first, I thought it was simply related to the color of the image. However, as I found out when using several images that it was the opacity that affected depth. I used a picture of my friend, Ian as well as my dog back home, Charlie. Here are some pictures of the process and result.

Week 4 Libraries Sketches

For week 4, I revisited a project I made during Bootcamp. I tweaked around with the controls and the look of the circles. However, after some changes, I still like a version very similar to the original. The libraries I used were OSCP5 as well as NetP5.

Here is a link to the original sketch on OpenProcessing.

Final Presentation

Here is my presentation on the Max for Live patch I made to read serial inputs from Arduino for my Final. Unfortunately, the blog won’t allow me to upload the actual patch, but you can check it out on my Github page.

Assignment 5: Circuits

Here is the diagram and calculations for my circuits. Was still confused about exactly how much resistance to use for what.

And Vimeo links to both circuits: Circuit 1 , Circuit 2

I’ve been looking forward to using Arduino in projects for a long time, so it was nice to get started last class. I like the hands-on nature of physical computing and the fact that you can see the immediate result of your work, which is a change from Processing.

I’m still new to making circuits and using electricity, so it would be nice to understand those concepts a bit more. Why do we use certain resistors for certain components? How should this be calculated? Do you need to refer to the specs of all components?

Assignment 1

Well, up until Bootcamp, I literally had no previous experience coding. However, once I started learning about it I was immediately fascinated by the possibilities  and concept of coding. Therefore, I’m hoping CC Lab will give me the opportunity to build on the skills I started to learn. I hope to be able to translate some more of my concepts and ideas into a visual programming language like Processing.

In addition to Processing, I hope to really get into Arduino and start to explore the area of physical computing. I’m really interested in the concept of the “Internet of things” and the possibilities the Arduino and microcontrollers open up. More or less, I’m hoping CC Lab will be a place I am able to explore these new concepts and really experiment.

As far as artists and inspiration goes, here’s what I’m into:

Amon Tobin ISAM 2.0: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=009tRMrLv4s

Samsara: Awesome  movie I watched this weekend. Touched on lots of subjects. Great food for thought and visually incredible. Check out the preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0xVp3N-M84

Sigur Ros: Possibly one of the best bands ever. If you’ve never heard them you definitely need to check them out! Here’s a preview of the film they made a few years back documenting a series of free concerts they threw when back from tour in Iceland: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Oev9akI1B7g
