Workshop #2: March 31

CRAFTING COMPUTATION WORKSHOP 2

Saturday, March 31 from 1-5 pm
Parsons The New School for Design
MFA Design+Technology Workshop

Some of the most important learning today happens outside the classroom. As a creative technologist, YOU are well-positioned to inspire and influence the creativity, skills, and attitudes of learners in invaluable ways. The aim of the workshop (and larger research question) is to develop new approaches to teaching and learning computational thinking through craft: making “soft”, flexible circuits out of paper, conductive copper tape, conductive fabric, etc.

During this workshop, we will examine how craft can serve as a new point of entry for students to learn these skills, concepts, and attitudes. Then we MAKE! We will build interactive paper box circuits to serve as a tool for learning basic physical computing concepts and explore strategies for teaching these concepts to a novice audience.

The workshop is of course free and will be hosted at our lab with students from other education programs in NYC. If you would like to attend, please sign up here.
